Wickedly Windy

Wow ! It's a big November gale .Screens have ripped off the lanai panels and the trees are doing the twist. No matter where I perch I am feeling a draught  and the stove just can't get a good burn on.  But I am lucky compared to the folks on the south shore. How helpless they must feel to watch all they have under water with the knowledge of so much work ahead of them when the waters recede. God bless them all !   And praise to all the helpers stepping in to assist . These kinds of tribulations cast a community's character as to how well everyone comes together . And we should all ponder our own responses to such diasters as one never knows when our community could be next.
Listening to Canada AM this morning I learned of a beautiful new home just having been built (with no govt assistance ) to provide a home away from home for soldiers and first responders ' families to stay for nothing while the veteran is receiving medical care in hospital. Something very similiar to Ronald Mac Donald Houses for families with children battling chronic and serious illnesses. The house called Honor Home was built mostly by companies, organizations and individuals making donations of supplies ,labour and money  and the whole idea was started by one man with a vision and a whole lot of determination. Awesome story !

Update on the critters :  Oreo has an anal gland infection and must get more fiber into his diet (he and I both),and I need to make sure I rinse his fur thoroughly after a bath to avoid itchy skin. CoCo has a skin allergy and had to get steroid injections . Oh joy oh bliss !  What's a mama to do ??  Pay up and cry!

Stay safe today in these blasting winds and don't drive unless you must .   The Muse

Back down to Earth

After my book launch on Saturday evening which was a truly splendid time I 've been on a bit of a cloud but as we all know we can't stay up in those soft fluffy clouds forever as much as we would like to. As par for the course , life has that usual way of planting our feet back on the ground and telling us to get on with it. It , meaning reality. So what 's been my reality? Fixing the broken chain in the toilet tank with a pair of kitchen tongs , a chopstick ,and a big gob of super glue (and that was after I finally got my fingers unstuck! ),  cleaning up soaking wet garbage in the pouring down rain , that a raccoon had strung all over the back deck,  and getting so tired of having the door mats slip sliding away every time I stepped through the door that I got fed up and nailed them to the floor. This afternoon it's off to the vet with two furry boys who won't stop scratching and I can not find one single flea. My luck their skin will be sensitive to the  air from the woodstove !  So needless to say any thoughts that might have raced  through my head thinking that  becoming a first time author would somehow shift me to another realm have vanished like the sun. But it's such a wonderful memory, signing my very own little books . I'll be up in Wentworth this Saturday morning woth my books at the Christmas Craft Fair at the Rec Center and looking forward to that. That's if I have enough money left to put gas in the car after my visit to the vet .   The Muse
