Spontaneous Dipping

Who would have thunk it ?   One minute Oreo and I were strolling the roadside gathering refundables and the next we were back at the beach and a quick decision was made to get in the water for a dip since it was such a gorgeous day . The  basket of wash to be hung on the line as well as the bag of groceries to be put away were dropped on the back deck as I scurried into the cottage to don a swimsuit and head down the bank to the water before I lost my nerve. There was no fiddling around . Just straight in and out deep enough to get a good duck .And surprisingly the water was not as numbing as I expected. I've been in before when the pains would shoot up my legs but not today and this was around suppertime.  And Eleanor and Barb not to be outdone by moi soon clamored down the bank also and hit the waves. I went in twice and it felt so great to be back in the salt sea. I never even used my towel  as the air was so warm on the walk back to the cottage. Oreo was having a fit not being allowed down over the rocks to join me . I'm so glad I went with my urge to get in for one last dip but who knows there may still be another dip left in me . It's amazing how at our seasoned ages we can still bow to peer pressure as Eleanor had no intention of going in until she saw me go for the big splash and then off the clothes flew and before I could say "Chicken " she was in. I did notice however that she had herself pretty bundled up leaving the beach in Sheila's convertible with the top down while I was still wandering round in my bathing suit ,hanging out the wash amd making tea.   It seemed strange that at 4 o'clock I was in the water and at 6 I was on the ice at the curling rink!   Just gotta love it for the end of October .    The Muse

Bite the Bullet

Even though today is lots mild I finally bit the bullet and drug  the heavy woodbox from the backyard shed  into the cottage and filled it up to the brim with maple and birch sticks all ready for when the cold really hits and I won't want to be running outside for every piece of wood as needed. That's what I've been doing these past days when a little fire has been called for to take off the chill of the evenings. I'm such a baby when it comes to wanting my fires on  all the time. There's just something about seeing the flames as the fire burns that warms my whole being and makes me feel so comforted and cozy . It seems I also can fall  asleep much easier  if I am closer to the heat and able to see the fire. Sometimes my company huff and puff when they visit as they find it too warm but then others can't get close enough and lap it right up. Not to worry as there is always a window or two to open if need be.  And this time of year I always feel as though something is missing if at least I don't have a tiny fire on but I know when my Halloween Party takes place this weekend I had better not even consider putting one on as with all the spooky and ghoulish creatures  attending it will just be too crowded and warm . Candles will have to provide the cozy ,creepy ambiance. And maybe the dancimg will move right on out to the lanai  so the music won't interfere with the kitchen party jammin that will be also going on with any partiers who bring along instruments.
Don't you all find that one just never knows or can even halfway predict how a party may shake down ? I used to get a bit anxious before hosting parties or gatherings wondering if anyone would show up, or would everyone feel relaxed, or would everyone mix and get along .But now I just set the date, get the word out and whatever happens ,happens. I now let the guests take responsibility for how good a time they have  and that leaves me to just enjoy seeing everyone and spending time with them throughout the evening. And I always like people to know they are very welcome for whatever time they can stay and shouldn't feel bad about having to split only after a brief visit. Come for whatever time you can and hopefully leave with a smile  and hopefully you feel the hospitality was great   and you  want to come back again.      Cheers !   The Muse

A Crackling Fire and a Best Buddy by my Side

Here it is another Sunday evening and after a lovely day walking with Oreo in the gorgeous sunshine gathering refundables as well as stopping at the cafe in Wallace for coffee and crumpets and then heading on to visit mum and Rhonda  I am enjoying the warmth of the fire and having Oreo curled up beside me. This has been a great weekend especially with the special event last night at the Curling Club organized by the Chamber of Commerce. Audrey did a super job getting things put together and I came away very impressed with how this group is working . The meal catered by Four Corners Deli was awesome and Neville Mackay was all and more!   I had a fantastic time . Think I'll join the Commerce !

Yea! My favorite dancer won Canada's Best Dancer 2010 and Battle of the Blades is getting so good. And now I'm seeing Debbie Travis with her show down in Windsor NS . Very entertaining knowing it's in our own back yard.

Quite comical today as Oreo and I stopped near the Biteau Rd to look for cans and bottles and as we strolled down the highway towards Pugwash and neared a field of cattle ,they all started mooing and heading towards us. Then they stopped and just stared at us. Everyone of them !  Oreo wanted to go visit them .I think he thinks the cows are just very big dogs. But I wonder what he thinks when he hears the moos.

Have a great week everyone!      The Muse
