Bite the Bullet

Even though today is lots mild I finally bit the bullet and drug  the heavy woodbox from the backyard shed  into the cottage and filled it up to the brim with maple and birch sticks all ready for when the cold really hits and I won't want to be running outside for every piece of wood as needed. That's what I've been doing these past days when a little fire has been called for to take off the chill of the evenings. I'm such a baby when it comes to wanting my fires on  all the time. There's just something about seeing the flames as the fire burns that warms my whole being and makes me feel so comforted and cozy . It seems I also can fall  asleep much easier  if I am closer to the heat and able to see the fire. Sometimes my company huff and puff when they visit as they find it too warm but then others can't get close enough and lap it right up. Not to worry as there is always a window or two to open if need be.  And this time of year I always feel as though something is missing if at least I don't have a tiny fire on but I know when my Halloween Party takes place this weekend I had better not even consider putting one on as with all the spooky and ghoulish creatures  attending it will just be too crowded and warm . Candles will have to provide the cozy ,creepy ambiance. And maybe the dancimg will move right on out to the lanai  so the music won't interfere with the kitchen party jammin that will be also going on with any partiers who bring along instruments.
Don't you all find that one just never knows or can even halfway predict how a party may shake down ? I used to get a bit anxious before hosting parties or gatherings wondering if anyone would show up, or would everyone feel relaxed, or would everyone mix and get along .But now I just set the date, get the word out and whatever happens ,happens. I now let the guests take responsibility for how good a time they have  and that leaves me to just enjoy seeing everyone and spending time with them throughout the evening. And I always like people to know they are very welcome for whatever time they can stay and shouldn't feel bad about having to split only after a brief visit. Come for whatever time you can and hopefully leave with a smile  and hopefully you feel the hospitality was great   and you  want to come back again.      Cheers !   The Muse
